Festivals in ItalyThere are a lot of festivals that you can check out in Italy. For every town in Italy they have their own festival to celebrate; these events mostly are based on the historical events.

Tour Italy and check out the traditional festivals that each towns and villages celebrate, such as the towns of Agrigento, Arezzo, Ascoli-Piceno, Asti and Firenze. These are just some of the places in Italy where they celebrate the traditional festivals every year; some of these traditions have been celebrated for more than a hundred years. In the town of Agrigento, they celebrate the Almond Blossom Festival in the month of February. This festival is celebrated by having programs showcasing regional folk dance, songs and with costumes and also some fireworks displays. However in the town of Arezzo, usually in the month of September, they have this jousting contest, which they call the Joust of the Saracen. This is in commemoration during the medieval times. This festival is colorful and for three days the participants for this event are dressed as 13th century knights. They are going to do some flag tossing, pageantry and on the last day, jousting competition takes place. The town of Ascoli-Piceno, is also celebrating their own Joust of the Quintana Festival, unlike the town of Arezzo, here in Ascoli-Piceno , the high light of their celebration is the historical pageants that they have. This is The Quintana which the participants are dressed in costumes from the15th century. This is celebrated in the month of August.

In the town of Asti, the festival dates back from 1275, this is the oldest celebration that has been recorded in Italy; this is called The Palio at Asti. It is a 700-year-old festival that starts with a procession with 800 participants dressed in costumes from the 13th century. And there is also a community parade where there are twenty one communities that are in colorful medieval costumes. The parade opens and closes the Palio celebration. In Firenze, they celebrate the 16th century football in their town; it’s called the Calcio Fiorentino. The event is held at the Piazza Santa Croce where the 16th century game is played in medieval costumes. This venue is where the real match was held in the medieval times. The teams are divided by the four neighborhoods in Florence. This game is a combination of soccer and rugby. This festival is held during the third week of June every year.
