 FAQ

1. What kind of clothes should I pack?

It depends on the month you visit and the part of the country you are going to. Since summers can get quite humid, bring light clothing and sun protection (sunglasses, a big hat, and SPF). Sandals and sneakers make it easy to walk around—anything with heels can be very uncomfortable especially on the cobblestone streets. If you are visiting the Vatican or any church, be sure to dress modestly. You can’t wear shorts or slippers, and your tops should have sleeves. One option is to bring a cardigan to layer over your top.

During November to March it can get quite rainy. Bring a water-proof jacket and water-proof hat, and pack sensible boots that you’ve broken in or some fashionable sneakers. If you are going to the Northern part of Italy, dress for snow.

2. What travel documents do I need?

Always have your passport with you. You may not need a visa (it depends on your country of origin) especially if your trip is shorter than 90 days.

3. How can I save on accommodations?

One way to negotiate for discounts is to take your vacation during the off season, which gives you the added benefit of being able to see the sights without having to jostle your way through thick crowds.

You can also opt to stay at tourist apartments, especially if you are a large group. You can split the cost of the rent between all of you, and avoid the extra charges of hotels whenever you ask for another bed.

If you’re not too particular about furnishings you can also stay at a hostel. Unfortunately they do not allow reservations and you may not have that much space for your things, so pack light.

4. How do I plan my itinerary?

Italy has man sights. Find out what each place has to offer, and list down whatever most interests you. Look at their proximity to one another and the kind of things you can find at each stop over (it will give you an idea of how much time you will need to see everything there). Be sure to find out the hours the place is open and the time the tours start. You may also want to reserve a slot a few days before your arrival, so that you don’t waste time waiting for the next scheduled tour.

Some guide books and websites recommend itineraries for each city in Italy. You can also ask your travel agent or your hotel for assistance.
